Body & Heel Off-Loading devices are made to relieve or remove pressures from a certain area of the body. Off-Loading is required when there is a wound present or a bony prominence that is causing increased pressure. Heels are particularly vulnerable to skin breakdown. When patients lie supine, all of the pressure of their lower legs and feet rest on the heels, which have relatively poor skin perfusion and a paucity of muscle tissue to absorb stress. In addition offloading the foot or leg can also be used as a preventative measure against diabetic foot ulcers.
